The Anahuac Lady Panthers split a pair of non-district matches last week, falling to Liberty before bouncing back with a strong road victory over West Orange-Stark.
Anahuac opened the week on Tuesday, August 18, hosting the Liberty Panthers in a non-league challenge. Liberty came away with a 3-0 victory, taking the sets 25-14, 25-13 and 25-14.
The Lady Panthers were led offensively by Addi Pierce and Lanecia Schonberg, who recorded three kills apiece. Sky Hedges helped direct the Anahuac offense with seven assists.
Schonberg also made an impact defensively, finishing with a team-high three blocks.
Following the loss, Anahuac entered Friday’s matchup with West Orange-Stark looking to get back in the win column.
The Lady Panthers traveled to West Orange-Stark on Friday, August 21, for their first road match of the season and came away with a 3-1 victory over the Lady Mustangs.
Anahuac got off to a slow start, dropping the opening set 25-20, but the Lady Panthers responded by taking the next three sets, 25-15, 25-21 and 25-19, to secure the comeback win.
Pierce paced the Anahuac offense with 11 kills, while Hedges contributed 14 assists. Hedges also proved effective from the service line, leading the team with three aces.
With the split, the Lady Panthers moved to 6-4 on the season.
Anahuac traveled to High Island on Tuesday, August 25, to take on the Lady Cardinals.
The Lady Panthers’ freshman and junior varsity teams will also compete in the LCM Tournament August 27-29.
