(Austin, TX) – State Representative Terri Leo Wilson was recently appointed by Texas House  Speaker Dustin Burrows to serve on the Windstorm Insurance Legislative Oversight Board, a  position that will give her an important role in overseeing issues affecting windstorm insurance  coverage and rates for Texas coastal communities.

Rep. Leo Wilson stated she is honored by the appointment and looks forward to continuing her  work on behalf of coastal homeowners, families, and businesses.

“Protecting our coastal communities means making sure Texans have access to affordable and  reliable windstorm insurance,” said Rep. Leo Wilson. “I have attended TWIA hearings in  Galveston, listened directly to the concerns of homeowners and businesses, and advocated  against proposed rate hikes that would place an even greater burden on coastal families. I am  grateful to Speaker Burrows for trusting me with this important responsibility, and I will  continue fighting to ensure the voices of our coastal communities are heard.”

The Windstorm Insurance Legislative Oversight Board receives information regarding proposed  rules from the Texas Department of Insurance relating to windstorm insurance, may submit  comments on proposed rules, monitors windstorm insurance in Texas, including the adequacy of  rates, the operation of the Texas Windstorm Insurance Association (TWIA), and the availability  of coverage, and reviews recommended legislative proposals.

“Coastal Texans should not have to choose between protecting their homes and being able to  afford their insurance,” Rep. Leo Wilson said. “This appointment gives me another opportunity  to stand up for the people of our region and work toward a windstorm insurance system that is  stable, responsible, and fair to the communities that depend on it.”

Rep. Leo Wilson thanked Speaker Dustin Burrows for the appointment and reaffirmed her  commitment to representing the interests of Texas’ coastal communities as she begins her service  on the board.
