A special election was held in Chambers County on Saturday, May 2, 2026. In a very low voter turnout countywide, former Montgomery District Attorney Republican Brett Ligon soundly defeated Democrat Ron Angeletti for the State Senator District 4. Ligon now assumes the office of state senator and will run again in the November 3rd general election as the incumbent.
The City of Anahuac has a new mayor. Randall K. Decker defeated incumbent Charles Hightower. Meredith Turner retained her as Position 4 Alderperson and Nathan Trahan retained his as Position 6 Alderperson. Kathy Paden and Legg won the two positions on the Chambers County Public Health District #1 (Chambers Health) Board of Directors race.
BHISD passed the $95 million bond package to build a new fieldhouse and multi-purpose facility. BHISD Superintendent Greg Poole touted in a press release “voters overwhelming approve $95 million bond”. Only 7.75% (1,704) of the registered 21,978 registered voters chose to vote. Over 20,000 voters chose not to vote.
Poole continued his victory lap by displaying his apparent disdain for the First Amendment and his disdain for those who disagree with him, by publicly criticizing those he alleges were against the bond package. “The people have spoken and they weren’t swayed by demagogues, wannabe online warriors or a slanderous state rep,” Dr. Poole said. The press release also has Poole stating in a cult like manner that “social media is a charlatan that emphasizes followers who can be lost at a whim of the latest lurid allegation. Leadership emphasizes believers and I am proud of our school board and our staff who continue to make believers out of the students whose lives they positively impact”.
