Anahuac Panthers vs. Buna Cougars

If Anahuac was feeling good fresh off their 3-0 takedown of Deweyville on Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Panthers came up short against the Buna Cougars on Tuesday, falling 3-0. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Panthers of the 3-2 loss they experienced in the pair’s previous head-to-head fixture back in October of 2024.

Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-20, 25-14, 25-16.

Brecken Wilpitz paced Anahuac’s offense, picking up five kills. Wilpitz got some help from Sky Hedges and her six assists. Finally, Madison Willis kept Anahuac’s defense grounded, leading the team with two blocks.

Buna was led to victory by Madysson Merkelz and Tyler Rion. Merkelz had seven aces and five digs, while Rion had three aces and two assists. Those seven aces gave Merkelz a new career-high.

Anahuac’s defeat was their third straight at home, which dropped their record down to 9-25.

Anahuac Panthers vs. Kirbyville Wildcats

It was a proper cat-fight when Anahuac took on Kirbyville on Friday. The Panthers lost 3-0 to the Wildcats. The Panthers were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Wildcats apparently hadn’t forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in October of 2024.

Anahuac took the loss but they managed to make steady progress, increasing their score in every set they played. The match finished with set scores of 25-13, 25-18, 25-22.

Their offense was headlined by Brecken Wilpitz and Callie Henicke, who picked up three kills apiece. They got some help from Sky Hedges and her ten assists. Avery Smith controlled things from the service line, finishing with two aces.

Anahuac has been struggling recently as they’ve lost 20 of their last 23 matches. That’s put a noticeable dent in their 9-26 record this season.

The Lady Panthers will take on the Orangefield Lady Bobcats on Friday, October 3rd in Orangefield.
