The East Chambers ISD Regular School Board Meeting was held, Monday, June 10th at 6:00pm in the Administration Office located at 216 Champions Loop, Winnie.
The Board of Trustees and Superintendent, Scott Campbell first recognized the UIL State qualifiers for the 2023- 2024 school year. The students recognized were:
UIL Academics:
Jackson Burford – Journalism, 3rd Place; Dax Henley – Persuasive Extemp Speaking; Ayden Tapley – Ready Writing – 5th Place; Jonathan Carter – CX Debate, Octo-finalist; Ayden Tapley – CX Debate, Octo-finalist; Omni Cagle – CX Debate; Kevin Dodd-Albritton – CX Debate; and Dax Henley – LD Debate, 3rd Place.
Band: Christian Carter – Brass quartet; Jose Chavez – Brass quartet; Rylan Fontenot – Brass quartet; David Solis Brass quartet; Willy Berger – Brass quintet; Beto Hernandez – Brass quintet; Hector Torres – Brass quintet; Ayden Tapley – Brass quintet; Lincoln Trove – Brass quintet; Ciara Bangart – Twirling Ensemble & Twirling Solo; Jaydon McDonald – Twirling Ensemble & Twirling Solo; Alexis Nelson – Twirling Ensemble; and Kylee Bordelon – Twirling Ensemble.

Cross Country: David Cuerdo – Boys CC – 15th place.
Swim: Koby Jones – Medley Relay; Hayden LeVeck – Medley Relay; Brandt Meaux – 100 Butterfly, 500 Freestyle and Medley Relay; Reid Todd – 100 Back, 50 Free and Medley Relay; David Cuerdo Medley Relay – alternate; Matthew Reddell Medley Relay-alternate; and Garrett Reves Medley Relay-alternate.
Golf: Trinity Smith- Girl’s Golf 9th place.
Powerlifting: April Sinopoli – 2nd place medalist; Jaden Thibodeaux – 4th place medalist; Andrea Lopez – 5th place medalist; Kathryn Johnson; Marley Morgan; and Kelly Santana.
Track: Mallory Frederick – Girls High Jump – 6th place.
There were five ECISD employees that were recognized for their years of service and recognition of retirement. They were Vicki Moore – 5 Years of Service; Eddy Harrison, Jr – 12 Years of Service; Liz Collins – 14 Years Combined Service; Jackie Gauthreaux – 17 Years Combined Service; and Kellie Daniel – 32 Years of Service.
In other business, summer school attendance is recorded at just over 200 students this year. Britnie Bordelon, Principal of the Elementary School, reported students have an opportunity to participate in a new summer camp, STEM Camp. This camp is hosted each week for the month of June and students learn different STEM activities. She hopes to continue this camp for years to come. Darren Smith, Operations Director reported the projects from Proposition A (ECJH new classroom building, expansion of the Elementary campus, and Career Tech building) are 66% complete. The Career Tech building which will hold a cosmetology lab, commercial culinary kitchen, and dance studio, is expected to be completed by December 2024.
Action items presented at the meeting: Superintendent Scott Campbell was given an excellent evaluation; one part-time teacher will be moved to a full-time position and the hiring of a new teacher with a year probationary contract; a Child Care Center Director has been hired; and Monday, August 26th is the tentative meeting to adopt budget/ set tax rates.
The next Regular School Board Meeting will be held July 8th, 2024, beginning at 6:00pm in the Administration Office located at 216 Champions Loop, Winnie.
