Years ago there was a popular song, “Don’t worry, Be Happy”. It was pleasant, yet I think a bit unfocused. We don’t need to worry, but instead we need to trust God. In Matthew 6 Jesus tells us not to worry and gives us various reasons why. My #1 would be that God knows and cares. He doesn’t just give us blue skies, but He does promise “that all things work together for good for those that love the Lord and are called according to His purpose.” (Romans 8:28) Being that God has a plan and is working it, we ought to join in. He will always win in the end. Anything else that we hitch our wagon to is an uncertainty, but not God. I realize that we are not told many details or had life and the future explained to us, but we can and should trust God. Should we be happy? Only if we are trusting God. Worry doesn’t help and is not a good practice, but it is what you are left with if you refuse to trust God. We should be confident and know that just as God cares for birds and grass, He cares even more for us. Have you publicly confessed that you believe in and trust God? That’s where to start. If you refuse, you will be worried and have no reason to trust anything else. Life is found only in God. He is trustworthy.
