The East Chambers Buccaneers began post season play when they traveled to Warren to take on the Huntington Red Devils in the first round of playoffs and defeated them 69-57 on Tuesday, February 18th in Bi-District playoff action.

The Runnin’ Bucs jumped out to a 22-11 lead in the first quarter mainly because of great defense and efficient offense. Then proceeded to take the second quarter off as Huntington led 29 -28 at half. The second half was completely different. The Buccaneers flew around from start to finish. They were also very aggressive offensively.

Leading the Runnin’ Bus: #3 Jaxson Pitre with 25 points (21 in the second half), 10 rebounds, 3 assists, 2 deflections, and 4 steals. He was followed by #23 Dayvon Wallace with 19 points, and 3 rebounds; #1 Jarrell Smith with 14 points, 3 rebounds, 2 assists, 2 deflections, and 2 steals; #4 Cam Dillard with 7 points, 5 rebounds, 2 assists, 1 deflections, and 2 steals; #5 Colby West with 2 points, 1 rebound, 1 deflection, and 2 steals; and #20 Darius Edmonson with 2 points.

The Runnin’ Bucs advanced in the playoffs and took on the two time defending State Champions, the Hitchcock Bulldogs at Goose Creek Memorial on Friday, February 21st.

Coach Sutherland commented, “It was not the desired outcome, but the Runnin’ Bucs  fought to the very end.” The Buccaneers fell to the Hitchcock Bulldogs 60-45 in the Area round of the UIL basketball playoffs. The game was close throughout, but the Bucs hit a dry spell to open the fourth quarter (Hitchcock had a lot to do with it). That dry spell allowed the Bulldogs to go for the three-point lead to a 17 point lead.

The Buccaneers were led by #3 Jaxson Pitre with 14 points, 8 rebounds, 1 assist, 3 deflections, 3 steals, and 1 block; #1 Jarrell Smith with 9 pints, 8 rebounds, 3 assists, 5 deflections, and 2 steals;  #21 Dayvon Wallace with 9 points, 3 rebounds, 1 deflection, and 2 blocks; #4 Cam Dillard with 4 points, 3 rebounds, 5 assists, 3 deflections, and 3 blocks; #21 Evan Callahan with 4 points, 1 rebound, 1 deflection, and 1 block; #10 Aidan Singh with 3 points, and 1 deflection; and #5 Colby West with 2 points, 4 rebounds, 1 assist, and 1 deflection.

Coaches comments, “Congratulations to Coach Chris Jordan and his Bulldogs! Job well done! I am very proud of the Buccaneers’ effort, especially the five seniors: #3 Jaxson Pitre, #1 Jarrell Smith, #11 Aden Thornton, #10 Aidan Singh, and #32 Kevin Dodd-Albritton. They have truly been the face of Buccaneers basketball. Their work ethic and character is highlighted on this team. They will truly be missed. This ends the Buccaneers season at 28-9. Thanks to everybody that has followed us and supported us. We really appreciate the Buc nation! Until next year Geaux Bucs!”
