Breast Cancer Awareness Month lasts through October and aims to promote screening and prevention of the disease. Breast cancer affects one in eight women in the United States annually and about 2.3 million worldwide. Aside from general education and fundraising, one of the primary campaigns for Breast Cancer Awareness Month is the promotion of regular screenings through mammograms. Mammograms are non-invasive X-rays to detect cancers in the breast tissue. According to the United States-based Cancer Assistance Fund, the third Friday in October (which falls on October 20th this year) is National Mammography Day.
In collaboration with The Rose, Coastal Gateway Health Center will be hosting its next mobile mammography day on Tuesday, November 5th. Limited spots are available for the mobile bus, so patients are encouraged to call to schedule their appointments.
