Breast Cancer Awareness Month

Breast Cancer Awareness Month lasts through October and aims to promote screening and prevention of the disease.  Breast cancer affects one in eight women in the United States annually and about 2.3 million worldwide.  Aside from general education and fundraising, one of the primary campaigns for Breast Cancer Awareness Month is the promotion of regular screenings through mammograms.  Mammograms are non-invasive X-rays to detect cancers in the breast tissue.  According to the United States-based Cancer Assistance Fund, the third Friday in October (which falls on October 20^th this year) is National Mammography Day. 

In collaboration with The Rose, Coastal Gateway Health Center will be hosting its next mobile mammography day on Tuesday, November 5^th. Limited spots are available for the mobile bus, so patients are encouraged to call to schedule their appointments.

Qualifications to Complete a Mammogram on the Mobile Bus: 

• Appointment is required. Call the health center at 409.296.4444 to be added to the schedule and to complete the necessary paperwork.
• Most insurance companies cover mammograms.
• Financial Assistance is available for those who qualify. Call the health center at 409.296.4444 for questions or to receive a copy of the Financial Assistance Application. 
• Must be a female 35 years or older.
• Have not had a mammogram within the last year.
• Does not currently have breast symptoms or problems.
• Is not pregnant or breastfeeding.
