Chambers Court Commissioners Court met on Tuesday, April 22, in the County Courtroom in Anahuac at 9:30 am. One of the first orders of business was the Court proclaiming May 4-10, 2025, as 2025 National Correctional Officers and Employees Week. Chambers County Commissioners presented the proclamation to Chief Nathan Shelton and Captain Todd Harris.

Court also adopted the Chambers County Thoroughfare Plan. It is a plan that was a coordinated effort between the Houston-Galveston Area Council (H-GAC) and Chambers County. It was noted that Chambers County is the sixth fastest growing county in the country. And with an increased population, congestion and related issues with mobility can quickly arise. The County will use the Thoroughfare Plan to preserve roadway right-of -way as development occurs. The goal of this project is to assist the County in developing a transportation network as growth continues in the region. Visit The Seabreeze Beacon website (www.theseabreezebeacon.com) to see a copy of the plan.

The County discussed reassessing administrative costs associated with application for road abandonment procedures. Currently, the procedures do not state the amount of the “fee” associated with the work needed to determine road abandonment. The work would include surveys, title work, administrative costs, etc. Two hundred dollars to $600 was discussed to charge to determine if a roadway can be abandoned. If costs were less than $600, the remainder would be returned to the applicant. It has not been determined who would pay the difference if the cost was over the application fee.

A discussion of the number of homes in a subdivision with one entrance ensued. A couple of years ago, the Court determined that any subdivision with 150 or more homes would need two entrances. Apparently, developers want Chambers County to follow the requirements of other counties who allow anywhere from 350 to 1,000 homes in a subdivision to have a single entrance into the subdivision. No action was taken and a public hearing on the matter will be held on May 27, 2025, at 10am in the County Courthouse in Anahuac.

The next Commissioners Court meeting will be held on Tuesday, May 13, 2025, at 9:30am in the County Courthouse in Anahuac.
