Trump Officially Announces First-Ever GOP Midterm Convention in Dallas

  President Donald Trump has officially announced that the Republican Party will hold its first-ever midterm national convention in Dallas this September. Trump posted to social media that the convention will take place September 9-10. He described it as a “truly Historic Event.”

  “BIG NEWS! For the first time ever, the Republican Party will hold a MIDTERM CONVENTION,” wrote Trump on Truth Social. “It will be in Dallas, Texas — One of my favorite places in the World.”

  Trump said the convention will celebrate what he called the “GREAT AMERICAN COMEBACK” and the accomplishments of his administration, including tax relief, border security, lower costs, and increased energy production. “We are delivering on the promises that politicians talked about for decades, but never got done,” Trump wrote. The president also said the event will feature “hardworking Americans, our Great Innovators, Entrepreneurs, Manufacturers, First Responders, and Job Creators” along with entertainment, describing it as “a RALLY like none other!”

  The Republican National Committee amended its bylaws in January to allow for a midterm convention. While national conventions are typically held every four years during presidential election cycles to nominate candidates and adopt a party platform, the Dallas gathering will instead focus on speeches and messaging ahead of the November elections.

  Though Trump himself will not be on the ballot, Republicans have made clear they intend to use the convention to highlight the administration’s record and make the 2026 midterm elections a referendum on Trump’s presidency. “This historic Midterm Convention will highlight President Trump’s many accomplishments and unwavering commitment to restoring America,” said RNC Chairman Joe Gruters. “This convention will be a Trumpapalooza, where we will showcase the America First agenda, which has delivered the largest tax cut in history and made communities safer. President Trump will unite Republicans around our shared vision, build momentum, and deliver an incredible convention for our Party.”

  Texas Republican Party Chairwoman D’Rinda Randall also welcomed the announcement, saying the state party would play a role in hosting the convention. “President Trump has said that Dallas is one of his favorite places in the world, and Texans couldn’t be more excited to welcome back our favorite President,” Randall said Tuesday evening. “No one energizes Texans like President Trump. We can’t wait to welcome him and thousands of patriots from across America to Dallas as we build momentum for the midterms, fight for an even redder Texas, and help deliver a redder America. Welcome back, Mr. President!”

  The event is also expected to place a national spotlight on Texas, where Attorney General Ken Paxton is running against Democrat James Talarico in one of the country’s most closely watched U.S. Senate races.
