Pickleball continues its surge in popularity and Chambers County Commissioners Court has responded. Quality Courts & Outdoors has built courts in Mont Belvieu, Anahuac, and Winnie and is scheduled to build more in Beach City.
Why has pickleball become so popular? It is easy to learn for beginners but can still be fun and competitive. It is less physically demanding than tennis and played in shorter bursts. It is social and inclusive. It is popular across all ages and often paired with community events.
Last Thursday morning, Pct. 1 Commissioner Jimmy Gore cut the ribbon to officially open the six pickleball courts in Winnie Stowell Park. 253rd District Judge Chap Cain and Pct. 1 JP Celia Devillier also participated in the ribbon cutting.
The six courts are located in the northeast corner of the park. There are lights for night play, and a water fountain will soon be placed at the entrance to the courts. The rules for using the courts are clearly displayed on the fence by the court entrance.
Several area pickleball players attended the ceremony. Winnie resident Becky Dale stated, “It’s nice to not have to travel out of Winnie to play pickleball. Before we would have to drive to Beaumont or Mont Belvieu to play.”
Gore thanked John Parrott, Chambers County Parks Director, for assisting Quality Courts & Outdoor in building such high-quality courts. Ben Klinbeil, owner of Quality Courts & Outdoor laughed, “It’s in our name. Quality comes first in our product!”
