Mont Belvieu, TX – November 12, 2025 – The Chambers County Children’s Museum is thrilled to announce that it has received a generous $200,000 grant from ExxonMobil to support the museum’s ambitious 4,000 square foot expansion project. This expansion will enhance the museum’s ability to inspire and educate young minds in its ever-expanding community.
This significant grant from ExxonMobil is part of a larger fundraising effort, which has seen the support of key partners including the Barbers Hill Education Foundation, 1PointFive, Moody Foundation, Strake Foundation, CenterPoint Energy, Community Auto Group, OneOK, Sjolander Interests, Albert and Ethel Herzstein Foundation, Shell Pipeline, Accent Compliance, and Energy Transfer. Together, these organizations and foundations have committed over $700,000 to bring new and innovative exhibits and programming to the museum.
The much-anticipated expansion will host six new interactive exhibits focusing on critical themes such as science, music, STEM, conservation, and carbon capture. These exhibits are designed to engage children in hands-on learning experiences that inspire curiosity and foster a love for discovery. In addition, two new meeting rooms will allow for new programming including the Museum’s brand new After School Program, which is now enrolling. Please see the website for more details.
“We are incredibly grateful for the support from ExxonMobil and all our partners who have come together to make this expansion a reality,” said Kathy Harrison, Executive Director of the Chambers County Children’s Museum. “These new exhibits will not only enhance our educational offerings but also provide exciting opportunities for children to explore and learn about important topics that will shape their futures.”
The expansion, named “Discovery Zone,” at the Chambers County Children’s Museum is set to open its doors to the public in spring 2026. With this expansion, the museum aims to become a cornerstone of educational engagement in the region, providing families with a safe and enriching environment.

About Chambers County Children’s Museum:
The Chambers County Children’s Museum was founded in 2019 by a group of 12 dedicated community leaders with a shared vision to create a vibrant, hands-on learning space for children and families. Through the generous support of Mayes Middleton, the museum was gifted a 15-year rent-free lease at the former Thrif-Tee Food Center. After years of planning and fundraising, the museum officially opened its doors in June 2023 with the backing of more than 70 community sponsors and foundations. Today, the museum welcomes over 70,000 visitors each year, offering interactive exhibits and creative programming that inspire imagination, exploration, and lifelong learning. www.ccchildrensmuseum.org
