John 3:16 is probably the best known verse in the bible. It begins “God so loved the world” which has to be interpreted properly. God’s love for us is perfect and complete. He doesn’t overlook flaws or problems, but considers the whole picture of us. He sees flaws and problems as things that must be fixed, challenges, and not as barriers that stop our relationship. His love is not a puppy love that is delighted with how cute we are while young but is blind to what we will become as we age and change. He sees the complete picture of us and reacts perfectly. He sees our sin problem and responds with a solution that only He can do by giving His one and only begotten Son. He realises that this is not a problem that does not require us to take part as we must believe in Jesus, agreeing with God’s truth of the situation. It’s grace and love yet requires us to love back. God’s love does not ignore truth but embraces the facts and makes our relationship with Him all it should be with respect and honor included. It’s good news.
