The Anahuac Lady Panthers faced a challenging road schedule this week, traveling to Kountze on Tuesday, September 22nd, before making the trip to Tarkington on Friday, September 25th. Anahuac battled through a five-set thriller against the Lady Lions before falling to the Lady Horns in three sets.
Anahuac opened the week with an exciting 3-2 victory over Kountze on Tuesday. The Lady Panthers took the opening set 25-20, but Kountze answered with wins in the second and third sets, 25-19 and 25-23. Anahuac refused to let the match slip away, rallying to take the fourth set 26-24 before winning the decisive fifth set 19-17.
The Lady Panthers finished the match with 26 kills, led by #12 Addi Pierce with nine kills. #10 Lanecia Schonberg added eight kills, while #3 Tatum Hampton recorded seven. #13 Sky Hedges paced the offense with 12 assists, while #9 Addi DeHoyos contributed five assists. DeHoyos also recorded three service aces.
Defensively, #1 Brecken Wilpitz led Anahuac with 11 digs, while #13 Sky Hedges and #2 Baylee Watson each added six. As a team, the Lady Panthers recorded 33 digs. The victory moved Anahuac to 17-15 on the season.
The Lady Panthers returned to the road Friday, September 25, traveling to Tarkington. Anahuac battled throughout the match but fell to the Lady Horns 3-0 by scores of 25-19, 25-17 and 25-16.
#12 Addi Pierce led Anahuac’s offense with five kills, followed by #10 Lanecia Schonberg with four. #4 Rai’Ana Lewis and #6 Melody White each recorded two kills, while #3 Tatum Hampton added one.
At the service line, Anahuac finished with three aces. #13 Sky Hedges, #12 Addi Pierce, and #3 Tatum Hampton each recorded an ace. #9 Addi DeHoyos led the team with six assists, while #13 Sky Hedges added seven.
Defensively, #1 Brecken Wilpitz led the Lady Panthers with 23 digs, followed by #3 Tatum Hampton with 11 and #6 Melody White with six. Anahuac finished with 51 team digs in the three-set match.
The split on the road left the Lady Panthers with a 17-16 overall record heading into the final week of September.
Anahuac returned home Tuesday, September 29th, to host the Buna Lady Cougars. The Lady Panthers will remain at home Friday, October 2nd, when they host the Hardin Lady Hornets for their Pink Out game.
