Hundreds of volunteers from St. Louis Catholic Church in Winnie gathered in the parish hall this past weekend to prepare and cook 16,000 rice balls for the Texas Rice Festival. The rice balls have become one of the festival’s signature foods. A rice ball has chili enclosed in a rice cooked mix with cheese and butter, then coated in cracker meal and fried. The making of the rice ball is a long-running fundraiser to support the activities of St. Louis Catholic Church.

It is recommended to buy the rice balls early at the festival as they do tend to sell out!

Many thanks to the volunteers who helped make these magical, mystical rice balls!
