Chambers County Public Health Wins Prestigious Award

Chambers County Commissioners Court recognized the Chambers County Public Health department last Tuesday for receiving the Education Through Innovation Award by the Texas Association of City and County Health Officials (TACCHO) for the creation and implementation of Reality Check, a financial literacy crash course for high school seniors. As a testament to the department’s commitment to advancing public health education through creative outreach, collaboration, and forward-thinking programs, this achievement reflects the dedication of staff and community partners who work tirelessly to provide meaningful, accessible education that improves the health and well-being of residents across Chambers County.
Makayla Emmons-Smith, RN-BSN, is Chambers County’s Community Health Team leader. She presented “Reality Check” to the TACCHO and was awarded the 2026 Education Through Innovation Award. The program has been heavily implemented at area schools, including Anahuac High School and East Chambers High School.
