Panthers Fall to Livingston in High-Scoring Battle

The Anahuac Panthers put together a big offensive night Friday, September 4, but the Livingston Lions answered with an even bigger performance as the Panthers fell 61-50 in a high-scoring non-district battle in Livingston.

The loss drops Anahuac to 0-2 on the season, while Livingston improved to 1-1. 

Despite the setback, the Panthers’ offense produced 556 total yards, including 330 rushing yards and 226 passing yards.

Leading the Panthers on the ground was Jaytwan Dowdye (#0), who delivered a standout performance with 22 carries for 213 yards, including a 69-yard run. Dowdye scored two rushing touchdowns and added two receptions for 65 yards, giving him 278 total yards from scrimmage.

Tre Smith (#4) added 71 rushing yards on nine carries, including a 24-yard run, and scored one rushing touchdown. Oscar Garza (#3) contributed seven carries for 46 yards, with a long run of 23 yards.

Through the air, Braydon Sutch (#7) completed 12 of 23 passes for 226 yards. The Panthers also recorded 12 receptions for 226 yards as a team. Darion Williams (#2) hauled in seven passes for 73 yards, including a 27-yard reception, while Cullen Cotton (#10) caught three passes for 88 yards, highlighted by a 59-yard reception.

Anahuac’s offense showed its ability to put points on the board, scoring 50 points against the Lions. However, Livingston’s defense came up with three interceptions, including one returned for a touchdown, helping the Lions preserve the 11-point victory. 

The Panthers will look to get into the win column Thursday, September 10, when they return home to host Liberty in another non-district matchup. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
