We meet the sisters Mary and Martha in Luke 10. Jesus is friends with them and they are followers of Him. It was a big deal when He came to visit and Martha was overwhelmed with all the cooking and hospitality so she complained, “Lord, don’t you care that my sister has left me to serve alone? Tell her to help me!” She felt that what she was doing was vital and trumped everything else. She was very impressed with her good deeds and hard work. Jesus didn’t agree. He said she was worried about many things when only one thing really mattered. Mary was sitting with Him, listening and that is the one thing that will make a difference. Letting Jesus be Lord and tell her what was important mattered, even saved. Martha and us are proud of our goodness and worldly accomplishments, but only what Jesus did really matters. Are you paying attention to what He says, or are you looking forward to the judgement to brag about all you did?
