The Winnie area business community joined forces to ensure that every child in East Chambers Primary and Elementary Schools start school prepared with their necessary school supplies and ready to learn. Debbie Breaux, Executive Director of the Winnie Area Chamber of Commerce, organized the Back-to-School Supply Giveaway last Friday which was held at the Winnie Stowell Community Building. She and the chamber ambassadors and volunteers separated school supplies according to each grade level and packed them in green backpacks embossed with the EC logo. Dozens of area businesses and individuals donated all the school supplies. ECHS and ECJH cheerleaders helped distribute the packs.
Over 300 students came to collect the school supplies. Riceland Healthcare provided hot dogs and sponsored The Frigid Frog snow cones. The Winnie Stowell Lions Club provided popcorn. The Chambers County Public Library had bookmarks for the kids to color.
Many thanks to the sponsors who, with their support, this school supply giveaway was such a success. They are 1PointFive, Coastal Gateway Healthcare Center, White Hawk, The Seabreeze Beacon, Edward Jones, Winnie Welding Works & Construction, Winnie Dodge, Riceland Healthcare, and Roughneck Rentals. Thanks to Chambers County Public Health Department, Catholic Charities, Spindletop, Chambers County Public Library System, One 24 Apparel, Jack and Jill Boutiques, MTZ Events, The Beauty Barn, The Lighthouse Barber, and Common Cents Credit Union.
If your child could not attend, there are extra backpacks and supplies available at both the EC Elementary School and Primary School campuses. Call the school at 409-296-6100.
