High Island, TX, April 2025-Senior Tyler Greer is on track to become the first in his family and the first in the High Island Independent School District to earn two associate degrees alongside his high school diploma this spring. Tyler graduated from Lamar Institute of Technology in Beaumont, Texas, with an Associate of Arts and an Associate of Science in Criminal Justice on May 15th, followed by his High Island High School graduation on May 23rd-a historic milestone in his remarkable journey of excellence and service.
A full-time scholar, Tyler qualified for Regionals multiple times in University Interscholastic. League (UIL) academic competitions. As a varsity athlete, he excelled in football-earning All-District and All-Region awards and a nomination for the Willie Ray Smith Award, presented by the Beaumont Founders Lions Club-and competed in Track up to the Regional Level multiple years. Tyler also shone in One Act Play, winning awards, and served as Vice President of the National Honor Society at High Island, and a member in the Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA).
In his community, Tyler volunteers, works part-time, and founded a computer/tech repair business. He’s spent summers employed by the High Island ISD IT department and was honored last spring with the Honesty & Integrity Award from Winnie Stowell Masonic Lodge #1377.
Tyler plans to become a Game Warden, pursuing a Bachelor’s in Criminal Justice with a minor in Conservation/Nature Studies. He will begin classes in Spring 2026. Meanwhile he has enlisted with the Texas Army National Guard and will leave for Basic/AIT in July, continuing his family’s tradition becoming the 4th generation to serve.
