East Chambers Lady Bucs Volleyball Battles Back for Two Big Wins

The East Chambers Lady Bucs volleyball team picked up a pair of impressive victories last week, defeating the Kirbyville Lady Cats in straight sets on Tuesday, September 15th, before traveling to Kountze on Friday, September 18th, and rallying from a two-set deficit to earn a thrilling five-set victory over the Lady Lions.

East Chambers opened the week at home against Kirbyville and wasted little time taking control of the match. The Lady Bucs swept the Lady Cats 3-0, winning by scores of 25-16, 25-6 and 25-18.

The second set was especially dominant as East Chambers limited Kirbyville to just six points.

#11 Makayla Montoya led the Lady Bucs at the net with seven kills, while #3 Mikaela Quave and #12 Presley Simino each added six kills. #0 Jimena Vargas anchored the defensive effort with 10 digs, followed by #2 Addi Blank with seven and Montoya with four. #8 Addie Parker helped keep the offense moving with 19 assists.

The Lady Bucs then hit the road Friday for a matchup against the Kountze Lady Lions, where they faced a much different challenge.

Kountze took the first two sets, 25-23 and 25-21, putting East Chambers in a 2-0 hole. The Lady Bucs responded with determination, winning the third set 25-23 before taking the fourth set 25-21 to force a decisive fifth set.

East Chambers completed the comeback in dramatic fashion, winning the fifth set 17-15 to secure a 3-2 reverse-sweep victory.

#11 Makayla Montoya and #0 Jimena Vargas once again led the defensive effort. Vargas finished with an outstanding 28 digs, while Montoya recorded 23 digs and Blank added 15. Simino finished with 10 kills, while Montoya and Quave also contributed eight kills each.

Parker recorded 20 assists in the five-set battle. At the net, Simino and Quave each had three blocks, while Montoya added two.

The two victories showcased the Lady Bucs’ ability to win in different ways — dominating from the opening serve against Kirbyville and then showing resilience and composure while battling back against Kountze.

East Chambers improved to 7-7 on the season following the two victories and continued its schedule with a matchup against Tarkington at home on Tuesday, September 22nd. The Lady Bucs will travel to Buna on Friday, September 25^th to take on the Lady Cougars with the Varsity game starting at 4:30pm.
