Last week, I proudly joined my friend, U.S. Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy, at Port Houston for a roundtable discussion. Secretary Duffy made two major announcements that will propel our energy and maritime industries forward and strengthen American leadership in both sectors: a massive rollback of burdensome regulations and the approval of a deepwater port license off the coast of Matagorda, marking a significant milestone in the Maritime Administration’s permitting process.
For decades, American shipbuilding has declined, and we’ve taken a back seat to foreign competitors who have filled in the gaps. Thankfully, this administration is restoring our capabilities. President Trump and Secretary Duffy have invested more than $350 million in the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy, nearly $1 billion to modernize our ports, and $35 million in our nation’s small shipyards.
This administration understands that energy dominance relies on a robust maritime industry. By prioritizing critical infrastructure, America is securing its position as the world’s leading energy exporter.
I’m proud of the role Texas’ 36th district plays in keeping our nation moving, on land and at sea. I will continue championing policies that unleash American energy, equip domestic companies, and expand U.S. LNG exports to global markets.
