Anahuac defeats High Island 3-1 behind balanced offensive and defensive effort

The Anahuac Lady Panthers battled through four sets Tuesday night, defeating the High Island Lady Cardinals, 3-1, to earn their second consecutive victory.
Anahuac opened the match with a 25-21 win before taking control in the second set with a dominant 25-9 victory. High Island answered in the third set, edging the Panthers 25-20 and forcing a fourth set. Anahuac responded with a strong finish, closing out the match 25-21.
The Panthers received contributions throughout the lineup. Addi Pierce led Anahuac with seven kills while also recording five digs, two aces and a solo block. Lanecia Schonberg added five kills and was a force at the net with eight total blocks, including seven solo blocks.
Rai’Ana Lewis contributed three kills, 11 digs and a block, while Tatum Hampton and Melody White each added a kill.
At the service line, Sky Hedges turned in an impressive performance with five aces and seven assists. Brayli Van Vickle also provided a spark with four assists, four digs and three aces.
Defensively, the Panthers collected 18 digs and 10 total blocks as a team, helping Anahuac withstand High Island’s push in the third set and close out the match in the fourth.
The victory moves Anahuac to 8-4 on the season, while High Island falls to 0-2.
Both teams will return to the road for their next contests. Anahuac will travel to face Danbury at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, while High Island will take on Kelly Catholic at 4:30 p.m. Friday.
