For four years under the Biden Administration, Texans witnessed an unprecedented crisis unfold at our southern border. Nearly 15 million illegal aliens crossed into our country while deadly fentanyl poured into our communities, cartel activity surged, and violent criminals exploited open-border policies that put politics ahead of public safety.
That is why I joined my colleagues in the Texas GOP Caucus to support H.Res. 50, a resolution affirming the constitutional authority of states to defend themselves when the federal government refuses to do its job.
The resolution reinforces protections already outlined in the Constitution, including Article IV, Section 4, which requires the federal government to protect states from invasion, and Article I, Section 10, which recognizes states’ authority to defend themselves when facing imminent danger.
Texans should never again be left defenseless while Washington fails to secure the border. Our law enforcement officers, Border Patrol agents, ranchers, and border communities carried the burden of this crisis firsthand, and they deserve leaders who will stand with them.
Under President Trump’s leadership, America is finally restoring law and order at the southern border. Illegal crossings have fallen to historic lows, cartels are being aggressively targeted, and border enforcement is once again being taken seriously.
But Texans know we cannot allow another future administration to drag this country back into the chaos and lawlessness we experienced over the last four years. I will always stand with Texas, support our law enforcement officers and Border Patrol agents, and fight to secure the border of the greatest nation on Earth.
