Chambers County celebrated 70 years hosting the Chambers County Youth Project Show (CCYPS) this past Wednesday, April 29th to Saturday May 2nd, at White’s Memorial Park in Anahuac. Hundreds of students who attend East Chambers ISD, Anahuac ISD, Barbers Hill ISD, and home schoolers showed the animals they have raised for the past year and showcased their agricultural mechanics projects and home economic projects. All participants are Chambers County FFA and 4-H members. What makes CCYPS so special is that there are no entry fees and 100% of the proceeds go directly back to the kids.

Saturday’s pre-auction activities began with CCYPS honoring several people. The Arena Dedication went to the late Luciano Palacios, a longtime Chambers County Parks and Recreation employee, the show itself was dedicated to County Judge Jimmy Sylvia in honor of his 30 years of service to the county and support of the show, and longtime YPS volunteer, Molly Lee, was honored with the Livestock Committee Legacy Award for her over 30 years of service to CCYPS.

Of the hundreds of entrees, 147 qualified for the live auction. Hundreds of local supporters and business owners participated in the auction. Before the auction began, the buyers were treated to a delicious barbeque meal cooked by county employees.

While the final numbers won’t be in for a while, CCYPS organizers say that both auction and barn sales are substantially up which is good news for the kids. Here are the top 10 buyers:

  • ARC Home Center purchased Rylee Fitzgerald’s GC F-1 for $38,000.00
