Terri Leo-Wilson, State Representative, District 23
I am deeply honored and grateful to the voters of House District 23 for once again placing their trust in me to be the Republican nominee for the Texas House. With a decisive 64 percent of the vote in the primary election, the message from our community was clear. The people of Galveston and Chambers counties know me, they know my record, and they know that I show up.
Every day I am proud to attend events across our district, meeting with families, small business owners, educators, first responders, and community leaders. That constant presence matters. The voters see firsthand the work I am doing on their behalf, and that is why they rejected the negative ads and misinformation that circulated during the campaign. In the end, the truth prevailed because the people of House District 23 know who is working for them.
I am humbled by your continued support and thankful for the confidence you have placed in me. I have championed legislation and funding for our district such as the $1.4 Million in grant funding for our Chambers County Sheriff’s Office, Chambers County Prosecutors, and Chambers County Attorney’s Office through the Rural Law Enforcement Salary Assistance Grant Program. I will continue working every day to deliver results for our communities as we head toward the general election in November.
Looking ahead, there is still important work to be done even before the next legislative session begins. Once Speaker Dustin Burrows unveils the interim charges, the committees on which I serve will begin their work studying key issues facing our state. As a member of the Public Education Committee and the Intergovernmental Affairs Committee, I will continue engaging with stakeholders, gathering information, and preparing solutions that will benefit our district and the state of Texas. Throughout this process, I will keep constituents informed as hearings take place and as important policy discussions develop.
Of course, our focus will soon turn to the upcoming 90th Legislative Session. Shortly after the election results were announced, I was honored to receive a congratulatory call from Governor Greg Abbott. During our conversation, I assured the Governor that one of my top priorities will be advancing his five point property tax relief plan for Texans. Property taxes remain one of the most pressing concerns for homeowners and businesses in our state, and meaningful relief is long overdue.
Additionally, our schools should be focused on educating students, not influencing elections. Likewise, taxpayers deserve full transparency regarding how public funds and resources connected to our school systems are being used. For that reason, next legislative session I intend to file legislation that will tighten restrictions on electioneering and strengthen transparency requirements for school districts and foundations that support them. No funds meant to educate our children should be used for lawfare or anything other than the educational purposes for which they were intended. Accountability is essential when public dollars are involved.
Working with the Governor, the Texas House, and the Texas Senate, I will continue fighting to ensure that taxpayers keep more of their hard earned money while maintaining the strong economic growth that makes Texas the best state in the nation.
Thank you again to the voters of House District 23 for your overwhelming support. I look forward to continuing this work and earning your vote once again in November. Together, we will keep delivering results for Galveston and Chambers counties.
