Robert “Blue” Jeans and his wife, Jen, once again brought big time rodeo excitement to Lilton Sonnier Arena in Winnie this past weekend. Record crowds of rodeo fans packed the arena this weekend to watch the cowboys and cowgirls compete in several different categories.
The Johnny Ackel Memorial Rodeo is becoming one of the most anticipated events of the year. Blue always brings in local cowboys and the up-and-coming stars to compete in the various events, much to the delight of the crowd. He also ensures that the proceeds of the rodeo go to East Chambers FFA and Hamshire Fannett FFA. Not including this year’s proceeds which are still being tallied, the Johnny Ackell Memorial Rode has provided over $38,000 in scholarship money for the kids. “This rodeo has always been about the kids,” said Blue. “Providing wholesome entertainment where parents can bring the family, and have a great night out while helping ag kids go to college.”
