One of our faithful readers, Jerilyn Smith, emailed me and said that it would be interesting to hear about the new businesses opening in Winnie. I agree! So, I drove all around our area taking pictures of the new businesses that will be opening very soon or in the spring. Winnie is growing, so here goes!

  1. Sure-Shot Game Calls – located on SH 124 across the street from Trinity Bay Conservation District and next door to Entergy. Sure-Shot Game calls (duck calls) still made in Texas, maintains a commitment to innovation and attention to detail, providing hunters with exceptional tools for the field, and fostering a love for the outdoors. Sure-Shot has played an integral role in waterfowl hunting for generations and is still helping create memories. Open in early 2026.
  2. La Vaquita Meat Market – located on SH 124 next to Tia Juanita’s Fish Camp. La Vaquita Meat Market is a vibrant eatery with several locations in the golden triangle. La Vaquita is known for its authentic Mexican cuisine and quality meat market offerings. Customers frequently praise the flavorful dishes such as tacos and other Mexican food delicacies. Customers also rave about the marinated meats, baked goods, and specialty groceries. Open in January 2026
  3. Ace Hardware in Main Street Market – located at I-10 and SH 124. The market has a fully equipped Ace Hardware store with Benjamin Moore paints. It is outfitted to be a grocery store. Staff says they are waiting for the coolers and refrigerators to calibrate so they can be fully stocked with meats and frozen goods. Open for business.
  4. Taco Bell – located across from Main Street Market at I-10 and SH 124. A longtime favorite for Mexican fast food. Rumors are that it was going to open this week but after checking out the location, we may have to wait at least a couple of weeks before we can get our favorite beefy bean burritos. * Update: Taco Bell opened Thursday, December 18th!
  5. M&D Supply and Hardware– located next to Market Basket on SH 124. Well known for its inventory of hardware, lawn supplies, paints, and do it yourself project supplies. Store should open in January 2026.
  6. Stuckey’s – located on the FM 1406 feeder road off I-10 East. Stuckey’s is bringing its merchandise and great snack selections as well as another gas station to Winnie. Will be open in spring 2026.
  7. Plastics Tire Waste Recycling – located in north Winnie on SH 124 next to Tractor Supply. A new, advanced chemical plastic recycling plant by Ecocyclicand Enespa is under construction in Winnie, Texas, expected to be operational by Fall 2025, transforming hard-to-recycle plastics into pyrolysis oil for virgin-quality plastics, with another local service, Coastal Container Services, recycling drums and totes.
  8. Land Clearing on SH 1406 – Eight acres of timber are being cleared south of I-10, at

SH 1406 and Meneley in Winnie. Workers told me that Williams Bros own the land and rumor has it that they may be clearing it to sell outright because the price of land has become so expensive, or Williams Bros may use it as a “lay yard” for placement of equipment and supplies Williams Bros uses on its TxDOT projects.
