A New Home in Winnie, Texas

As I begin my ministry here at St. Louis Catholic Church in Winnie, I often find myself reminded of a special time in my life. Before entering major seminary, I spent four years in college seminary in Epworth, Iowa. The landscape there was filled with cornfields, cattle, and wide-open spaces. Driving through the countryside around Winnie, I sometimes feel a sense of déjà vu. The fields, the rural setting, and the hardworking people bring back many fond memories of those years of formation.

Those years in Iowa helped shape my vocation and taught me to appreciate the beauty of simple living, close-knit communities, and the goodness of God’s creation. Now, as I serve the people of St. Louis Parish, I am grateful to find many of those same qualities here in Southeast Texas.

In the Gospel, Jesus tells us, “I am the light of the world” (John 8:12). As we journey together in faith, may we keep our eyes fixed on Christ, allowing His light to guide our families, our communities, and our daily lives. I look forward to walking this journey with you.
