The Lenten season is upon us, and many of us are wondering what we will give up for the next forty days. Will it be chocolate, T.V., social media, or will it be something more damaging to our being gossip, anger, alcohol, drugs…?
Matthew 4:1-3 says:” Then Jesus was led by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil. After fasting forty days and forty nights, he was hungry. The tempter came to him and said, “If you are the Son of God, tell these stones to become bread.”
Jesus entered the wilderness to prepare his mind, body, and soul for the coming challenges ahead. In his most vulnerable state, Satan tempted Jesus with the very food he had given up.
Friends, Lent is not a season for us to go on a diet, increase our gym attendance, or prove to ourselves that we really don’t need our cell phones all the time. Lent is a serious turn in our spiritual journey. A time for us to prepare ourselves against temptation for the return of our risen Savior. When Christ returns will you be ready with your whole mind, body, and spirit?
