October is bringing plenty of action for Texas sports fans as the NFL season continues, professional basketball prepares for opening night, and the NHL gets its season underway. From the Houston Texans looking to build momentum to the Dallas Stars returning to the ice, the coming weeks will provide plenty of opportunities for fans to follow their favorite teams.

Texans Get First Win of the Season

The Houston Texans finally broke into the win column Sunday, October 11, with a convincing 26-3 victory over the Tennessee Titans in Nashville. Houston improved to 1-4 after a strong second-half performance on both sides of the football.

Quarterback C.J. Stroud completed 26 of 34 passes for 260 yards, throwing a touchdown pass to Jaylin Noel while also scoring on a short quarterback run. Houston linebacker Will Anderson Jr. recorded three sacks as the defense kept Tennessee out of the end zone.

The Texans will look to carry that momentum into their next matchup against the Jacksonville Jaguars in London on Sunday, October 18. Houston will need another strong defensive performance and consistent production from Stroud to climb back into contention in the AFC South.

The Dallas Cowboys also have an important week ahead. Dallas fell 24-16 to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Thursday, October 8, dropping to 2-3. The Cowboys will travel to Green Bay to face the Packers on Sunday, October 18, hoping to get back on track before a challenging stretch of the schedule.

Rockets and Mavericks Prepare for Tipoff

Basketball fans will not have to wait much longer for the NBA regular season. The Houston Rockets and Dallas Mavericks are using the preseason to prepare their rosters and establish chemistry ahead of opening night on October 21.

The Texas rivals met twice in preseason action in Macao, China. Houston won the first matchup, but Dallas responded with a 132-115 victory on October 11. The games provided an early look at both teams as they work to find their rhythm before the regular season begins.

The Mavericks will host the New Orleans Pelicans on Wednesday, October 14, while the Rockets will welcome the Oklahoma City Thunder on Thursday, October 15. Both teams will be looking to finish preseason play on a positive note before the games begin to count in the standings.

Stars Face Avalanche in Early Test

The Dallas Stars are back on the ice and preparing for a Central Division showdown against the Colorado Avalanche on Tuesday, October 13, at American Airlines Center. Dallas entered the matchup with a 2-2-1 record after five games.

The Stars will face Colorado again on Wednesday in Denver, making the back-to-back meetings an early opportunity to measure themselves against a division rival. Dallas is also dealing with the absence of forward Matt Duchene, who is expected to miss approximately three months following core surgery.

The Stars will need contributions throughout their lineup as they work to maintain a strong position in a competitive Western Conference.

A Busy Stretch Ahead

With football continuing through the fall and basketball and hockey seasons getting underway, Texas sports fans have plenty to watch. The Texans and Cowboys will try to improve their NFL records, the Rockets and Mavericks are preparing for a new basketball campaign, and the Stars face an early test against one of their division rivals.

The next several weeks should offer a clearer picture of which teams are finding their stride and which still have work to do as the fall sports calendar moves forward.
