It was a beautiful day and a great turnout for the annual Smith Point Volunteer Fire Department Fundraiser Fish and Oyster Fry. True to tradition, hundreds of people from Chambers County and beyond feasted on the perfectly seasoned fish, shrimp, and oysters provided and cooked by Jeri’s Oysters Smith Point. The Bean Counter Cookers served barbeque with all the fixings as a delicious option. Numerous volunteers provided tasty baked goods that always sell out quickly.

It was also a perfect day for “politicking”. State Representative D-23 Terri Leo Wilson visited with the attendees as well as challenger Nathan Watkins. 253rd District Judge Chap Cain and his family were on hand to greet the attendees.

The SPVFD volunteers also worked hard on gathering auction items. Each item was auctioned off live by auctioneer extraordinaire Randy Royal. Royal brought humor and help bring out the competitive “spirit” among the bidders.

Many thanks to volunteers Pat Penze, Kaley Smith, Jacque White, Ann Newton, Will White, Rudy Neely, Margaret Ellison, Kaye Setticase, Bill Horton, Damian Plancarte, and Alex Martinez. Also, thanks to the Anahuac HS and East Chambers HS FFA members who assisted in serving and selling raffle tickets.

Proceeds from the fundraiser help the fire department buy new equipment and provide training for its volunteers.
