Safe Haven Baby Box coming to Chambers County in 2026

Last Tuesday was a truly special day in Chambers County Commissioners Court. Item 10.1—to place a Safe Haven Baby Box in our county passed unanimously by every commissioner. This incredible initiative has been led with vision and compassion by CCGOP Precinct 3 Chair and The CCRW Vice President, Loretta Emmons.

Safe Haven Baby Boxes, founded by Monica Kelsey in 2015, is a non-profit organization that offers a safe, legal, and compassionate option for parents in crisis to surrender their newborns. These baby boxes, installed in secure and monitored locations, have already saved many lives across the country by giving infants a chance at a safe future. The work ahead is just beginning. Each baby box costs $25,000, but with the generous support of our community—and the unwavering dedication of Loretta, the CCRW and the CCGOP—we can make this happen. Together, we can ensure that every mother has a safe option, and every child has a chance at life.
