Washington’s heavy-handed control over our schools has failed students, burdened teachers, and sidelined parents. Instead of focusing on academic excellence, the federal government has spent decades pushing progressive social agendas at the expense of real education. Despite trillions of dollars spent by the Department of Education since its creation, test scores have plummeted, and our children are falling further behind. Last week, President Trump took action to change course. He signed an Executive Order directing the Secretary of Education to begin shutting down the Department of Education and returning authority to states and local communities. This critical step ensures that education decisions are made by those who know students best—parents, teachers, and school boards—not unelected bureaucrats in Washington. |
It’s always great to be home and connect with the incredible people making a difference in our community. Last week, I had the opportunity to visit with local leaders, businesses, and innovators to see firsthand the cutting-edge advancements happening right here in Southeast Texas. |
I enjoyed my visit to NASA’s Johnson Space Center where I met with three members of the remarkable Artemis II crew. These astronauts are hard at work preparing for their 2026 mission to orbit the Moon and return to Earth, paving the way for America’s renewed presence on the lunar surface. Their dedication and grit continue to inspire the next generation of explorers and reaffirm our nation’s leadership in space. |
It’s always an honor to visit the 147th Attack Wing and meet the dedicated men and women who play a vital role in safeguarding our national security. Touring the facilities and speaking with airmen, my team and I gained firsthand insight into their critical missions and cutting-edge operations that make a difference every day. We owe a deep debt of gratitude to those who answer the call to serve, and I will always stand with our nation’s veterans. |
The port of Houston is a cornerstone of our region’s economy, driving international trade and supporting thousands of jobs across Southeast Texas. As the steward of the Houston Ship Channel, it plays a vital role in expanding commerce, strengthening supply chains, and ensuring the efficient movement of goods worldwide. It was great to see the incredible work being done to keep Texas a leader in global trade and economic growth. |
I also had the opportunity to visit San Jacinto College, which plays a vital role in preparing Southeast Texans for the workforce and keeping them competitive in today’s job market. I experienced firsthand the hands-on training students receive, equipping them with the skills they need to succeed. The college is doing outstanding work for our community, ensuring our workforce remains strong and ready for the future. |
Our district is rich with Texas history, and the San Jacinto Museum and Battlefield stand as a testament to the bravery and sacrifice that secured our independence. Dedicated to preserving our state’s legacy for future generations, this historic site ensures that the spirit of Texas lives on. It’s always great to visit and reflect on the events that shaped our great state! |
Our district is home to incredible people, innovative industries, and dedicated service members who make a difference every day. I’m grateful for the opportunity to meet with so many of you and see firsthand the great work happening across TX-36. As always, I will continue fighting for our communities, our values, and a stronger future for Southeast Texas. |
Sincerely, | | | Rep. Brian Babin |
