Chambers County Commissioners Court will discuss and take action at their regular meeting tomorrow, Tuesday, January 28th, item #6.2 – “discuss and consider approving to go for RFP (Request for Proposal) for six (6) new pickleball courts at Winnie-Stowell Park. Pct. 1 Commissioner Jimmy Gore told The Seabreeze Beacon that there was an incredible demand for pickleball courts in the County. “Visit the pickleball courts in Anahuac and Mont Belvieu on weekends and you will see that pickleball courts are packed”, said Gore. “Players in our precinct have to go to Beaumont and/or Mont Belvieu to play so these six new courts in Winnie-Stowell Park will be very convenient for people on the east side of the county.”
Gore said that participating will probably be first come, first serve unless there is a tournament where some of the courts will be reserved. Gore also emphasized that that cost of the pickleball courts will come from a $500,000 CO2 injection payment made to the county. The estimated cost is about $250,000 for the six courts.
Gore also said that the park will also have two new regulations size soccer fields with a concession stand and viewing stands. “The money for these new soccer fields has already been approved in a Certification of Obligation passed last year.”
Sports enthusiasts have a lot to look forward to from the county’s parks and recreations department via Chambers County Commissioners Court. Improvements have been made to the Chambers County golf course, four new baseball/sport complexes, soccer fields, and now pickleball courts.
