Middleton Responds to Commissioners Vote against CHL to Carry Guns in Court House

I disagree with the decision by the Chambers County CommissionersCourt to disregard the Attorney General opinion and continue to restrict the Second Amendment rights of Chambers County citizens. We should not be prosecuting or threatening to prosecute citizens for exercising the rights guaranteed to them by our Constitution. What we need to be doing is making it easier for our law-abiding citizens to exercise their right to bear arms. This session, the Texas Legislature did not pass a law to allow someone to carry into the courthouse. However, we did reform 30.06 this session by passing House Bill 121, which I was proud to be a co-author. House Bill 121 protects concealed carry holders who inadvertently or accidentally carry a weapon onto a property displaying a 30.06 sign by creating a defense to prosecution for the permit holder if they were given a verbal warning by the property owner and promptly departed the property. No law-abiding Texan should ever fear prosecution for carrying a firearm.
