This past weekend Lone Star Guardians (LSG) hosted their first coed softball tournament, and it was a success by every measure! This event was a test of the LSG team’s ability to operate a fundraiser outside of their comfort zone, to be certain, because they have normally put on rodeos and cook offs. The first time tournament hosted 10 coed softball teams and their family and friends, five vendors and one nonprofit “The Clothing Exchange”. The winners were “Locally Hated” (champions), “The Dukes of Huffman” (2nd place) and Blackhawk Security (3rd place). The tournament dubbed “Swing for Defenses” resulted in a $5,000 donation to Bridgehaven CAC. Bridgehaven has received donations of approximately $20,000 and CASA of Liberty/Chambers County has received $10,000 in just the last year from LSG.
Lone Star Guardians is a nonprofit fundraising organization that has taken on the burden of raising funds for the child advocacy organizations that operate in Chambers and Liberty Counties. Organizations that receive funding from events like this are CASA of Liberty/Chambers County, Bridgehaven Child Advocacy Center, and Bay Area Turning Point. In order to receive funding from Lone Star Guardians the organization must utilize the funding in Chambers and Liberty Counties, and they must work directly to the benefit of neglected and abused children. Lone Star Guardians has an unpaid staff of five board members and one non-voting member, David McNeely (President/Founder), Connie McNeely (Secretary), Stacey Hatfield (Treasurer), Roger Delong (Cook off Coordinator), Katrina Delong (Concessions Coordinator) and JP5 Judge David Hatfield (Team Member).
