Jim Farley is an executive with Ford Motor Company, in charge of leading Ford to make wise plans. He recently went to China to view their automobile industry and was very impressed with their innovations. Now he has to decide whether their new ideas are what people really want. He said, “I don’t like research. I want to know what people do.” Huh? I had to break that down to make sense of it. By research he meant doing surveys and taking polls. You ask people what they think. The problem with research is people want to please you so they tell you what they think you want to hear. They don’t want to argue or disagree. But when push comes to shove they don’t necessarily do what they say they will. So Jim doesn’t care what they say, only what they will do. That’s what matters. “Be ye doers of the word and not hearers only.” (James 1:22) Many people talk about God, say they believe, but they don’t do God. What is the truth? What they do.
