Jesus’ ministry includes an episode where He took Peter, James, and John to the top of a tall mountain to pray and He was “transfigured”. That means His glory, His truth/reality was revealed so that He glowed like the sun. Moses and Elijah were speaking with Him about “His departure”. Somehow the 3 disciples fell asleep and missed some of this, but waking up, Peter began babbling about building the 3 tabernacles, some sort of shelters, but God the Father interrupted him proclaiming “This is my Son, My chosen one. Listen to Him!”. After this the transfiguring is over and it’s just Jesus and the 3 disciples. Jesus orders them not to tell anyone about what they saw until after He had risen from the dead. It is common for Jesus to tell people then not to tell others what He had done. Generally they told anyway. What’s the problem? Here we are told that the 3 didn’t know what He meant by Him being “risen from the dead” which tells us they had nothing to tell other than an amazing story that they did not understand. Jesus had clearly told them already, several times, that He would be arrested and killed and on the third day rise from the dead, but they wouldn’t believe it. They didn’t know the gospel, the good news. Jesus came to do much more than heal and miracles. He came to die for our sins. The 3 had nothing to tell and neither did those healed. They missed the gospel, the real reason Jesus came. Do you have anything to say? Do you believe the gospel?
