Jesus gives us a strange parable in Luke 16 where a manager is caught embezzling funds and is ordered to turn his records in. Before he turns them in he makes deals with all the people who owe his boss so that they feel indebted to him and thus he is taken care of. Jesus says to imitate the thief by using your “mammon of unrighteousness” to make friends and thus be taken care of. Mammon is earthly, passing away resources that you control. That could be money and possessions, or time and skills. The only true eternal friend is God so Jesus is commending us to use our lives to play up to God. Does your spending and time usage reveal that you are a believer in Jesus? Or do they reveal a heart that doesn’t really believe in Jesus? We can’t work or buy our way to heaven/God, but we should have evidence that we trust in Jesus. He ends up saying you can’t have 2 masters. Is God your master or are the things of this world? You can not serve both. Believe in Jesus!
