Mark 6 gives us the story of the feeding of the 5000. Everyone was filled and delighted. Some were even talking of making Jesus king thus starting a revolution. Jesus would have none of that. He rushed the 12 disciples away on a boat. Why? We are very impacted by the people around us. He had to remove them from the wrong thinking. Then He sent the crowd away and went aside to pray. We only read of Jesus praying in 3 instances: before choosing the 12, Gethsemane, and here. I am certain He prayed many other times but these are the only specific prayer times we know. Why here? He was concerned for the 12. Verse 52 tells us they had hard hearts. We think God doing miracles would push us the right way, but the 12 allowed greed and lust for this world to lead them away. Jesus prayed and they focused on Jesus being the Son of God, what really matters. Live to Jesus, not the world and self.
