Texas Governor Greg Abbott and several candidates for statewide office “barnstormed” their way to Stowell last Wednesday afternoon to gather enthusiasm for his personally endorsed candidates and encourage everyone to vote in the March 3rd primary.
Hundreds of supporters filled Tony’s BBQ and Steakhouse in Stowell to see the Governor and meet with State Representative District 23 Terri Leo Wilson, Texas Agricultural Commissioner candidate Nate Sheets, Texas Comptroller Kelly Hancock, and State Senator District 4 candidate Brett Ligon. State Senator District 11 Mayes Middleton, who is running for Texas Attorney General, was in attendance as well as several other candidates for office.
Abbott, who is running for reelection, thanked everyone for being there and spoke of his past accomplishments as governor as well as his plans as the next governor. He spoke about banning Sharia Law in the State and about the opportunities SB 2 gives all Texas children the option to attend the school of their choice. Abbott also touted lowering property taxes and vowing to lower taxes even more.
Brett Ligon, Nate Sheets, and Kelly Hancock all delivered fiery speeches as to why they are the best candidate for their particular race. Leo Wilson spoke passionately of her work with the Governor in passing bills and working on future legislation. She spoke proudly of carrying and passing the Shrimp Labeling Bill, the No Hostile Nations Owning Texas Land, and Banning Men in Women’s Private Space, among others.
Abbott in return, enthusiastically and passionately, encouraged the attendees to vote for Leo Wilson and keep her in the State House to work on conservative legislation. The crowd cheered in agreement even though a handful of her opponent’s supporters in attendance “booed” the Governor’s remarks.
It was the first visit from Abbott to the Winnie Stowell area since he has been Governor.
