Unfortunately, cross country season came to an end at the Region III cross country meet held in Huntsville, Texas, on Monday, October 20th.

Even though we did not have anybody advance, both the boys and girls performed at a very high-level. We had several personal best and also several season best times.

First with the girls. Our top finishers were Karen Hernandez, Giselle Santana, Kalyssa Fontenot, and Mikeala Quave. All of these were under 14. As a team we came in 6th and Karen barely missed advancing individually. Great job ladies.

For the boys, our top finishers were Agustin Granada (20th 17:08), Cristian Moreno (PR), Xavi Martinez, Jose Rufino, and Drew Frederick (PR). All of these guys were under 20, which is phenomenal. The Buccaneers came in 10th as a team.

I wanna say thanks to a few people. First to our seniors. Agustin Granados, Cristian Moreno, Jose Rufino, Brian Chavez, and Aleena Rodriguez: Thanks for your leadership and effort. It does not go unnoticed.

Also, I would like to recognize Agustin in particular. He was disappointed to not make it in today, but he actually ran his season best it was just such a fast heat. He went to State last year. He has represented so well for four years. Such a hard worker, respectable, and trustworthy. He will absolutely be missed.

Also, thanks to coach Ashley Sherman all the hours she has put in helping with his team and giving advice. She’s the professional in this! Also, the way she leads the junior high. We’re very fortunate to have her East Chambers.

We will return some very talented runners next year, especially on the girls side. So with that being said, we’re looking forward to next year.

Until then, Geaux Bucs!
