The East Chambers Runnin’ Bucs had a BAD start for the second game in a row on Tuesday, January 20th in Buna.
The Buna Cougars jumped out on the Bucs 11-0 before they had even blinked. Buna is not a place that you want to get way behind and then have to come back.
The Bucs then started clawing away and actually briefly took a three point lead in the second quarter before going to half at 29 -29.
In the second half, Buna scored the first two possessions and were immediately up five points and the Bucs did not get the lead until late fourth quarter.
Coach Sutherland commented, “The Buna Cougars are very well coached and we had a hard time forcing turnovers or getting their three-point shooters guarded. We literally ran every defense we have. Lol.”
The Runnin’ Bucs somehow pulled it out.
Coach Sutherland exclaimed, “We are very proud of our players toughness down the stretch!”
Leading scorers for the Buccaneers was Dayvon Wallace with 23 points (and was money at the free-throw line down the stretch), Colby West with 20, and Cam Dillard with 16.
This runs the Buccaneers record to 21-5 overall and 5-1 in district.
The East Chambers Buccaneers defeated the Anahuac Panthers on Friday, January 23rd with a final score of 88-51 in Winnie.
The Runnin’ Bucs had something tonight that you don’t see very often. The Buccaneers had 3 players that scored 20+ points.
Evan Callahan led the Bucs with 22 points, Cam Dillard had 21, Dayvon Wallace had 20 (all in the 2nd half), and Colby West with 10 points and 10 assists.
This moves the record to 22-5 and 6-1 in district.
Also, a shout out to our JV boys and girls as they completed the sweep.
Geaux Bucs!
