Cornerstone Church of Winnie Packs 305 Shoeboxes for Samaritan’s Purse Operation Christmas Child

Tuesday, November 7th, Cornerstone Church hosted their first packing party for Samaritan’s Purse Operation Christmas Child. This organization sends shoeboxes filled with things like school supplies, hygiene items, clothes, and toys to children around the world. Along with this box of gifts, the children will go through The Greatest Journey, which is a discipleship program that teaches them about Jesus which is the greatest gift of all.
Rhonda Glanzer, DVM, is the coordinator for this event. She has been involved with Samaritan’s Purse for 27 years serving in the Bridgewater, South Dakota church where she grew up. In 2021, Rhonda and Pastor Melanie Griffin when to the Samaritan’s Purse Processing Center in Dallas which is where the shoeboxes go before they embark to their final destination. After seeing all the shoeboxes and the excitement there, Rhonda and Melanie knew it was something Cornerstone Church wanted to be part of. Last year, empty boxes were picked up by the congregation and 221 boxes were brought back full. This year, items were purchased or donated throughout the year for the packing party. Rhonda says, “We were blessed by donations – both financial and items – from not just the congregation but also from friends and family not connected to our church. We also had local businesses partner with us to help cover the $10 per box shipping and $6 per box for the discipleship course. Without this generosity, we wouldn’t have been able to pack all of these boxes.”
Tuesday morning the Women’s Connection group helped organize all these items in preparation for the packing party. Tuesday night, about 40 people of all ages came to help pack the boxes. There was Christmas music, laughter and smiles as everyone packed the shoeboxes. The goal was to pack 300 shoe boxes at the party plus 50 online shoe boxes that go to hard to reach areas. 305 boxes were packed and we are still working on reaching our goal for on-line boxes. Rhonda says “What a blessing it is for our church to send these boxes and bless children around the world.”
