Gregory Park in Stowell, Texas was the site for a benefit for East Chambers Junior High School eighth grader Darrell “Third” Tezeno. Tezeno has been diagnosed with B-Cell Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia and is having to endure aggressive chemotherapy treatments.

The Stowell community is a very close-knit community. When Darrell became sick, the community united to help Darrell’s family deal with the overwhelming medical expenses. Kandi and Sean Malveaux headed a group of family and friends to host a fundraiser to help the Tezeno family.

Starting early at 10am last Saturday morning you could catch the aromas of smoked barbeque chicken, sausages, and boudin being slowly cooked in a line of huge pits filled. The men of Stowell really know how to cook. Leo Levier, Sean Malveaux, Henry Harmon, and Robert Hale oversaw the cooking and did not disappoint! The plates included homemade potato salad, pinto beans, cake, and soft drinks. Malveaux said, “There is no need to cook tonight! We have plenty of chicken and sausage and sauce piquant over rice”. Kandi Malveaux stated that close to 500 plates were sold. “We sold out, cooked some more, and sold out again.  That was well over the goal we set. The Winnie Stowell community really has supported the Tezeno family.”

Darren Johnson organized the television raffle. LeRoy Green, Andrea Taylor, Cheryl Taylor, and Matilda Tezeno also worked together to help make the benefit a success!

The organizers want to thank everyone who came out to support Darrell.
