WINNIE, Texas (July 2025)—Coastal Gateway Health Center announces it has secured a $46,166 grant.
Coastal Gateway Health Center (CGHC) has secured a Community Impact Grant awarded by the United Way of Greater Baytown & Chambers County. This grant aims to tackle complex issues in our community by bringing together community partners to help solve these issues. The generous giving of the businesses and residents of Greater Baytown and Chambers County makes the funding available. This funding will be used to support the Outreach and Eligibility Program within Coastal Gateway Health Center, which provides resources and opportunities to the residents of Chambers County.
CGHC is committed to being a leader in supporting diversity, equity, and inclusion. The health center values the diversity of the people/patients and communities we serve, recognizing human differences and similarities. The health center lives daily by its mission of providing affordable and comprehensive care to residents in the community, regardless of ability to pay.
In rural areas like Winnie-Stowell, the need for resources beyond healthcare is ever-increasing. Upon creation of this program, CGHC hired a bilingual Eligibility Specialist whose main focus is working one-on-one with Chambers County residents to supply them with the necessary information and means to apply for benefits such as TANF, SNAP, Medicaid, WIC, utility assistance, locating food banks, and CGHC’s own Sliding Fee Discount Program (SFDP) for healthcare and prescriptions. The SFDP program is a five-tier discount program based on income and household size. Each tier offers a low-cost co-pay covering provider visits at CGHC, most lab work, and discounted prescriptions. This program is already in full swing and is open to all uninsured Chambers County residents. It requires minimal paperwork, and most residents can be approved within 24 hours of applying. The creation of the Eligibility Program continues its efforts to greatly lighten the burden of financial strain by connecting Chambers County residents with resources.
“We are excited to receive continued funding from the United Way of Greater Baytown & Chambers County. This funding allows the health center to assist and serve residents in the service area who need various social services,” stated Kaley Smith, CEO for Coastal Gateway Health Center.”
