At last Tuesday’s Chambers County Commissioners Court, County Judge Jimmy Sylvia informed the Commissioners of his plans to relocate certain county offices. Sylvia placed an item on the agenda for approval of a modular office building for $164,667 to house the offices being removed from the courthouse. An additional item for approval was $75,000 for setting up the new modular building with utilities, technology, etc. Both items totaling $242,667 was approved. The money is being taken out of the 2020 budget contingency fund of $500,00. The fund will have $258, 333 after purchasing the building.
Four departments currently in the courthouse will be moving out. The Auditor’s office and the Treasurer’s office will be in the new office building which will be located at Airport Road/SH61. The Purchasing department will move into the West Side Annex in Mont Belvieu and the IT department will be moved to the County Attorney’s old office on SH 61. The County Attorney’s office will be moving into the auditor’s and treasurer’s old offices in the courthouse. Human Resources department will move into the purchasing department old office and the Safety department will move into HR old office.
As the changes were discussed in Commissioners Court, Sylvia commented that the Courthouse is a courthouse and wants court related offices and departments to be the primary occupants of the Chambers County Courthouse.
A timeline has yet to be established for the moves and relocations
