Chambers County Commissioners Court Appoints Scott R. Peal as First County Court at Law Judge, Effective January 1, 2021
CHAMBERS COUNTY, TEXAS – On Tuesday, November 10, 2020 the Chambers County Commissioners Court voted to appoint Scott R. Peal to the role of County Court at Law Judge, effective January 1, 2021. Mr. Peal will be the first to hold this newly created position.
Recently re-elected, Mr. Peal currently has held the office of Chambers County Attorney since 2009.
“We are excited to have Scott transition into this new role,” said Chambers County Judge Jimmy Sylvia. “He has served Chambers County well as County Attorney and his knowledge and experience in that capacity made him the perfect candidate to take the helm of this newly created Court at Law.”
The Texas Constitution limits each county to a single county court, however the Legislature has allowed the creation of county courts at law to aid in judicial functions.
“Our hope is that the creation of this new court will expedite the judicial process in Chambers County,” continued Judge Sylvia.
Prior to taking office as County Attorney, Mr. Peal served for four years as an Assistant District Attorney for Chambers County and two years as Assistant Criminal District Attorney in Kaufman County.
“I’m thankful that the Court has placed its trust in my ability to take on this job,” said Mr. Peal. “I look forward to continuing to serve the people of Chambers County and assisting in the improvement of the judicial process in Chambers County through this new opportunity.”
Chambers County Commissioners Court is currently accepting applications from qualified attorneys interested in the County Attorney position. Interested individuals may submit their written desire for consideration in person to the County Judge’s Office by November 20, 2020, or by mail to PO Box 939, Anahuac, TX 77514. The Court is expected to make an appointment by November 24. Any candidate appointed to the role of County Attorney would take office January 1, 2021.
