After eight months of preparing, planning, and construction, Catholic Charities of Southeast Texas officially opened the doors of The Thrift Barn in Winnie. Located at 909 SH 124 in Winnie, the Thrift Barn is part of Catholic Charities complex which includes the food bank Market to HOPE, the distribution and collection centers and employees who can assist you in other social services you may need.
The dedication of The Thrift Barn began at 11:30am, last Friday, with Bishop Most Reverend David L. Toups delivering the convocation and blessing the entire facility. Marie Duplissey spoke on behalf of the Board of Directors of Catholic Charities, and Susan Leblance presented a State proclamation on behalf of State Representative Terri Leo Wilson.
President/CEO of Catholic Charities Southeast Texas Caroline Fernandez with the help of dozens of volunteers and supporters cut the ribbon officially opening The Thrift Barn to the public. Dozens of customers had already gathered to shop at the Thrift Barn.
The crowd was very pleased with the layout and overall “look” of the store. There were separate “departments” for home furnishings and décor, shoes, clothing for adults and youth, and just about anything else you would find in an antique, second-hand shop.
The hours for the Market to HOPE food bank are Monday to Saturday, 11am to 3pm. It is best to make an appointment if possible. The telephone number is 409-924-4436. The Thrift Barn is open Tuesday to Saturday, 10am to 4pm. Donations can be dropped off at the Distribution Center at the same time.
